Essential Fireworks Safety

July 4th is a big deal in America. The 4th of July and spectacular fireworks displays go together. Fireworks are beautiful, but they can also be dangerous and in some cases, illegal.

If someone using fireworks accidentally starts a fire, they may not be able to turn to their insurance company for reimbursement.

Homeowner's Coverage

Most home insurance policies provide several different types of protection – each with varying payout limits. There are different types of accidents. If an insured shoots-off illegal fireworks and sets fire to their house, it may not be covered. Most policies exclude damage resulting from illegal acts. However, should fireworks accidentally spark leaves in the gutter, insurance may cover the damage.

What if the fireworks malfunction injuries someone? This also could be covered under a  homeowners’ insurance section for medical payments to others. Similarly, liability payments could cover fireworks that accidentally damage someone else’s property.

Consider the consequences before using fireworks.

Fireworks Safety - Keeping people and Property Safe

  1. Use fireworks outdoors only.
  2. Point fireworks away from homes, buildings and people.
  3. Store fireworks properly: Storing fireworks can be tricky — if stored improperly, they could lose their charge, weaken, or prematurely ignite. Store fireworks in a cool, dry, dark location out of reach of children and pets.
  4. Never use homemade fireworks.
  5. Read all instructions before igniting.
  6. Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy.
  7. Wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.
  8. Don’t use fireworks while under the influence.
  9. Don’t ignite fireworks in a container.
  10. Carefully dispose of spent fireworks.
  11. Light one firework at a time.
  12. Leave fireworks to the professionals: The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.

It really stood out to me when you mentioned that it is a good idea to only light one firework at a time. I would think that it would be important to keep a good amount of space between fireworks as well. That way you won't have to worry about them setting each other off.

I love that you talked about the importance of being aware of reading all the instructions for safety. My best friend told me that he is planning to buy fireworks for the 4th of July, and he asked if I have any idea what is the best option to do. Thanks to this informative article and I'll be sure to tell him that it will be much better if he consults a trusted wholesale fireworks shop as they can help provide his ideal fireworks.

Thank you for mentioning that fireworks should be kept out of the reach of children and pets and in a cold, dry, and dark place. My sister desires to acquire fireworks for the holiday party at her house. I will advise her to get advice from the fireworks distributor on how to properly store the fireworks.
